Our Commitment to Safety

H.T. Sweeney & Son, Inc. is committed to working safely. For us safety is not just a goal, as goals typically change over time.  Safety is a core value and a mindset that is instilled as a value for all of our employees. We plan our safety standards into each of our projects. We employ two full time professional safety managers with certifications by the National Safety Council, the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, among others.  They provide training, analysis, observation, record keeping, and insure compliance with company and customer safety policies, as well as OSHA regulations.  We are members of the National Contractors Insurance LTD, an insurance captive, and received their Safety Award in 2007, 2010 and 2012.

Training for our superintendents, supervisors, and employees includes on-site hands-on training, as well as in-classroom and online classes.

When required, we can provide further training: PSM, OSHA 40 hour hazmat, and any additional training as required by owners or clients.

Pre-job Hazard Analysis

We were faced with very confining and challenging urban terrain conditions where we were tasked to provide access to a existing in service Amtrak tunnel located in Baltimore, MD.
Finished project safely, on time and with no impact to Amtrak's railway operations.
Every bid package is reviewed to insure job-specific hazards are identified.  We look at the general safety requirements, the site history, the PHASE-ONE environmental report, and the geotechnical reports.
From there we formulate a safety strategy that is incorporated into our proposals.  We retain the services of outside consultants for job conditions that are out of the ordinary.

Hazmat Surveillance

When we use or work in hazardous materials, we provide full time oversight as required. On these visits, we observe site activities and provide PPE, air monitoring and soil testing as necessary.

  • One call utility mark outs
  • Daily job hazard analysis (JHA)
  • PPE requirements
